Lasers used in dentistry
There are a few different types of laser dentistry: hard tissue, soft tissue and caries (decay) detection lasers. We currently do not offer services performed with a hard tissue laser on bone or teeth.
We do routinely use our soft tissue laser for treatments including gum reshaping, tissue biopsy, gingivectomy for crowns, bridges and implant procedures and muscle attachment improvements. It is an invaluable tool.
We also use lasers for caries detection. Caries is tooth decay, or a cavity. Utilizing lasers to aid in the diagnosis of dental decay can greatly minimize tooth structure loss through early detection. Most of our new patients will have this completely pain free tool used to establish the presence and severity of tooth decay. We do not rely on this tool to make the diagnosis of decay for us, but it does give us the ability to confirm our suspicion where and when other decay detection techniques fall short.
